I am joining the Run for Autism team to raise awareness, acceptance, and funds for those whose lives and families have been directly affected by autism.
I'm excited to team up with the Organization for Autism Research whose mission is to use science to address the social, educational, and treatment concerns of self-advocates, parents, autism professionals, and caregivers. The mission of “applying” research to answer questions of daily concern to those living with autism defines their goals and program objectives and shapes their budget.
Since 2002, OAR has funded more than $3.6 million for new autism research via 98 grants at $3,345,000, for pilot studies, and $249,600 in grants to 138 graduates. They have also awarded $954,000 in scholarships to 318 persons with autism attending college or vocational-technical schools after high school.
The London Marathon is on April 28, 2019. I plan on raising at least $5,000 by the marathon. That means I will raise $190.83 a mile!
Here are some of the ways that OAR uses the funds raised by the Run for Autism team:
$1,000 provides a research grant for a graduate student studying autism.
$3,000 provides a scholarship for a student with autism to attend college.
$30,000 fully underwrites an applied research pilot study.
