Hello Family, Friends, and Co-workers!
Greetings from Lisa Grieco, or if you know me from the Y, Miss Lisa.
Two of my passions are running and helping people. On Sunday, October 22nd, I will have the chance to do both as I’ll be participating in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. I am running to support the Organization for Autism Research (OAR).
Training for this event gives me several hours to think about lots of things, my to do list, the joy and love of my family, and the families I know are coping with autism. It is gratifying to know the work OAR is doing to help individuals and families overcome obstacles related to autism. When I'm tired and not keen on putting in a few more miles, I think about the folks I know with autism, the doctors devoting their lives to doing research, and organizations that help families that are affected by autism. The strength, determination and resilience of all these people is a powerful incentive to keep on running.
As a swim instructor, I've been fortunate to work with youth and adults diagnosed with autism. Learning how to swim is so important for people with autism, as drowning is one of the leading causes of death for people with autism. My students diagnosed with autism have had a powerful impact on my life. They have taught me about persistence, patience, courage, and love. I am running this Marine Corps Marathon to say thank you for all the life lessons these dedicated students have given to me.
I am asking for your help to support this important work in serving people with autism. I’ve been training all summer and will continue to put in the training miles to prepare for the 26.2 mile run. I am asking for your help to reach my financial goal of $600. I appreciate a donation in any amount you are willing to contribute. It will be so much easier to run the marathon knowing I have your support along the way.
