Run for Autism
I am so excited that I am going to experience the pleasure of running the Berlin Marathon on September 24 in honor of
My nephew Ciaran
and the Organization for Autism Research. The picture on this page is of Ciaran and his 2 companion dogs. These 2 dogs help Ciaran move around in society just like any other young man of his age – 16.
What is autism? Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects one’s ability to communicate and interact socially. It is described as a spectrum disorder, which means that it manifests itself across a wide range of behaviors from mild to severe.
The Organization for Autism Research’s (OAR) mission is to apply research to the challenges of autism. OAR funds applied autism research and funds distribution of applied autism research. OAR defines applied autism research as “practical research that examines issues and challenges that children and adults with autism and their families face everyday.”
