Hi. We are Sophie Taillefer and Carlos Gonzalez-Najera. We are friends that share a passion for the sports, arts, music and performing, with one more thing that connects us.
We both have someone that we love in our family who has been touched by autism. For Sophie it is her son Nickola and for Carlos, his son Benjamin. Nickola and Benjamin are both smart, funny, full of life and curiosity. They are a joy to be around, and if you get to know them, they will crack you up.
This year we decided to team up and run the New Jersey State Triathlon together, which will be held at Mercer Park, NJ, on July 23 2017. It is a good opportunity to get fit and healthier, and a great chance to raise awareness for autism.
We also hope we can raise funds to support O.A.R. in their research towards better understanding of what autism is. We know very little about this condition, but with support from people like you, every day we push the frontier of knowledge one more step forward. It is not clear how this condition develops, but for some reason New Jersey has the highest prevalence in the US, with an estimated 1 in 28 boys living in the autism spectrum.
